Baker Williams, Jr.

    September 1, 1947  -  June 4, 2013

Life Legacy

Mr. Baker Williams, Jr., affectionately known as BJ, was the son of Baker Williams Sr. and Sara Lee Sanders Williams, both preceding him in death. He was born on September 1, 1947. BJ was the youngest son and fifth child of seven children. Four of his siblings preceded him in death: Harry, Brenda, Patricia, and Mae Frances. He departed this life on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at his home in Moncks Corner.

BJ was raised in Moncks Corner and educated in Berkeley County schools. He was employed for many years at Umphlett Lumber Company as a forklift driver. He also worked at the Berkeley County Courthouse as a custodian.

BJ’s favorite pastime was watching TV. His favorite shows were Animal Planet, National Geographic and Are We There Yet. He also had an interest in old cars and could tell you anything about them.

BJ was known for his loud laugh and his willingness to always lend a helping hand. The week before he passed away, he spent three days painting and pressure washing a church to help them prepare for their church anniversary. He did all this without complaining or expecting anything in return.

BJ woke up June 4, 2013 and started his normal daily routine. That morning, he asked his sister Linda, “Do you know what today is?” And she replied, “Of course.” Well, June 4th was the day they lost their mother Sara Williams one year ago. No one knew the Lord would call BJ home on the very same date as his mother, but God knows best. The “jokester” of the family will truly be missed.

Those left behind to cherish his memories: two daughters, Grace Mathis of Moncks Corner, SC and Ajeenah Mustafa of Orangeburg, SC; one son, Dexter (Twylia) Reid, Sr. of Savannah, GA; one brother, Herman Henry Sanders of Bronx, NY; one sister, Linda Williams of Moncks Corner, SC; seven grandchildren, April, Kaysone, Jasmine, and Neveah Mathis all of Moncks Corner, SC, Dexter Reid, Jr. of Goose Creek, SC, and Jon Reid of California; four great-grandchildren, Malachi, Kayden, Javan and Trevan all of Moncks Corner, SC; seven special nieces and nephews, Al, Penny, Henry Jr., Keisha, Chanee, and Tejahl; two special cousins, Lamont Sanders and Bobby Weiters both of Moncks Corner, SC; a close friend, Ransom Manigault of Moncks Corner, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
