Life Legacy
Lucille Lorraine Green Padgett
1921 - 2010
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course; I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me on that day: and not for me only, but unto all that love His appearing.
- II Timothy 4:6-8
Lucille Lorraine Green Padgett, was born on August 14, 1921 in Shulerville, SC. She was the seventh child added to the union of the late Mr. Sam Green, Sr. and Mrs. Corine Thompson Green.
Lucille was educated in the Berkeley County School System in Shulerville, SC. She also attended the public schools of Baltimore, MD.
On December 19, 1936, Lucille was united in Holy Wedlock to Harold Sidney Padgett. This union which lasted fifty-seven years was blessed with six children. Her husband; two sons, Richard and Elden, I; and a grandson, Damien all preceded her in death.
Lucille accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age and became a member of Wesley African Methodist Episcopal Church. She later became a member of Class No. 3, under the leadership of the late Brother Harold Padgett. This class is now being led by her son, Brother Jerome Padgett. She dedicated herself to Christian service and served passionately until her health failed.
Lucille served with diligence and was affiliated with many organizations in the church. She was a member of the Trustee Board, Stewardess Board, Senior Choir, Church School and Class No. 3. She also served as First Vice President of the Women’s Missionary Society and Director of the Youth Choir. Lucille also received the following recognitions and awards:
Youth Choir Director, Dedicated Service, February 1986
Honorary Member, Senior Choir, Sixty Years of Service, August 1995
Mother of the Year, May 2000
Women’s Missionary Society, Service Award, March 2004
Honorary Steward Board Member, August 2006
Mrs. Sandpiper Finalist, November 2006
Lucille loved to praise the Lord by singing the wonderful songs of Zion. Her favorite songs were: “When I Take My Vacation In Heaven”, “Yes, God Is Real” and “I’ll Be Somewhere Over There.” When she worshipped the Lord, she never ceased to make a joyful noise. She would always shout her favorite phrase which was “Go Ahead” in support of the choir and minister.
Lucille was employed with Shanks Food Services as a Cafeteria Assistant for many years. She was also employed by Shulerville Handy Mart and was a self-made entrepreneur in her home with her own little candy shop. Lucille was a housewife who loved cooking and baking. She had a passion for fishing and knitting and a green thumb for beautiful house plants.
Lucille, affectionately called “Granny” by her family, friends, church family and everyone throughout the community and surrounding areas, was loved and respected by all.
On Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 12:30 P.M. at Sandpiper Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Pleasant, SC, the final chapter of her book of life was completed. Her transition from Earth to Heaven was peaceful, beautiful and was but a “TWINKLE” of an eye.
Those who remain to celebrate her life and spirit and cherish her words of wisdom are: her children, Jerome (Marva) Padgett, Shirley (Otto) Kearise, Vivian (Herman) Nole and Clifford (Gertrude) Padgett all of Shulerville, SC; two sisters, Oneada Manigault and Geneva (Edgar) Manigault both of Baltimore, MD; four brothers, Sam Green, Jr. and Wilton Green both of Shulerville, SC, Irvin (Daisy) Green and Logan (Deloris) Green both of Baltimore, MD; fifteen grandchildren, LeChele and “Miss K” of the home; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; one sister-in-law, Evangelist Edith Booney of Brooklyn, NY; a goddaughter, Arnette Rivers of Moncks Corner, SC; lifetime friends, Mother Maybelle Davis and Mother Elma Davis both of Shulerville, SC; loving nieces, nephews, cousins, the Wesley AME Church Family and many, many friends.
In tearful and loving memory,
