Julia (Middie) Doughty, daughter of the late Theodore and Mary Washington Nelson, was born on February 20, 1912, in Bonneau, South Carolina.† She entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 25, 2010, at Life Care Center of Charleston, North Charleston, SC.

Julia received her primary education in Berkeley County Public Schools and did further studies at Burke High School, Charleston, SC.† She received her Practical Nursing Diploma in 1967 from the Post Graduate School of Nursing. She was employed by St. Francis Hospital and Nightingale Nursing Services until she retired in the late 1990ís.

At an early age, Julia became a member of Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church. While residing in Charleston, SC in the early 1930ís, she transferred her membership to Ebenezer A.M.E. Church. She was a faithful member of Class #17, Stewardess Board #3 and the Julia L. Gillard Womenís Missionary Society.

Julia was joined in holy matrimony to Oscar Lee Doughty.† Their union was blessed with one daughter, Irene Doughty Nelson. Her husband and seventeen siblings preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted daughter, Irene, Annapolis, MD; sisters, Mary Nelson Aiken, Jacksonville, FL and Elease Nelson Richardson, Williamstown, NJ; sister-in-law, Alice Samuels, Charleston, SC; a devoted cousin, John C. Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
