A TIME TO BE BORN: Alberta Loretta Fields, best known as "Jibbie", the daughter of the late John and Carrie Belle Fields, was born on July 28, 1937, in Harlem, New York. A TIME TO LIVE: Alberta received her education in the New York City School System. She graduated from Julia Richmond School of the Arts, where she cultivated her lifetime love for dance. As a professional dancer, she graced countless stages to include: the Apollo, Broadway, and Carnegie Hall. During the height of her career, she met and fell in love with the late Jerome LaVaughn Ruffin. Out of their union came her greatest gift, her baby girl, "the fabulous LaVon". In 2002, Alberta relocated to South Carolina. Soon thereafter, she gave her life to the Lord. Mama Fields began dancing as a Senior Saint at HHIM. She was known for her tenacity, her sense of humor, her matter of fact attitude, and her quotes: "Hey Baby", "It is what it is!" She lived life to the fullest, did everything she wanted to do, and did it well. A TIME TO DIE: On August 18, 2012, Mama Fields exercised her right of passage as a believer to go home to be with the Lord. A TIME TO REFLECT: Her life will be celebrated by her one and only daughter, LaVon K. Sumter; son-in-law, Zwaski Sumter; two granddaughters, Dominique Alexis Porcher and Destiny Amani Sumter; two brothers, John D. Fields and Tyrone C. Fields; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and an audience of family, friends, and loved ones.
