Mrs. Albertha Vanish Smalls, a daughter of Rufus Vanish and Mozelle Frazier Vanish, was born on December 23, 1937 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, SC.
Albertha received her education in the public schools of Berkeley County and was a graduate of Berkeley Training High School. After graduating, she relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
On December 7, 1957, Albertha was united in Holy Matrimony to Joseph Eddie Smalls. This union was blessed with three children. They returned home to Moncks Corner in 1979.
At an early age, Albertha accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was a faithful member of Anderson Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Senior Choir until her health failed.
In December 1999, Albertha retired from Magnolia Manor Nursing Home after working as a Dietary Aide for 15 years.
Albertha was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph; parents, Rufus and Mozelle Vanish; parents-in-law, Riley and Serena Smalls; and five siblings, Sadie Bryan, Gertie McNeil, Edward Vanish, James Vanish and Luther Vanish.
Memories of her life will forever remain in the hearts of: her three children, Jefferson (Brenda) Smalls of Goodyear, Arizona, Lorell (Chuck) Gordon of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Ramona (Deron) Chisolm of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers, Archie (Loretta) Vanish and Charles (Joyce) Vanish both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Anna (Henry) Wilson and Ruth (Cleveland) Pompey both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren: Tiffanie, Cynthia, Eddie, Janay, Stephanie (Dean) and Brejohnna; four great-grandchildren: Makaylah, Ariana, Venice and Stephen; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; special sister-in-law and friend, Tennie Brown; special nephew, Aaron Smalls; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Albertha blessed all of those around her with her wisdom, nurturing and caring spirit, beautiful smile and her pleasant personality. She thoroughly enjoyed attending activities at the Berkeley Senior Citizen Center, watching all sports and spending time with her family and friends.
A Home Going Celebration Service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019, 1:00 p.m., at Anderson Baptist Church, 1159 Old Black Oak Road, Moncks Corner, SC with the burial following in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service. There will be no viewing after the service.
