"Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in Me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" "Yes, Lord, I believe." John 11:25-26 Alethia Mae Fashion, affectionately called "Letha Mae", "Aunt Mae", "Sister", "Mother", and "Mom", was born November 13, 1929 in Moncks Corner, SC to the late Sidney Louis Small and Elouise Queen Pettigrew Small. She departed this life at home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, August 27, 2011. She attended the Berkeley County Public Schools and graduated from Berkeley Training High School in 1950. Alethia Mae married the late Reverend George R. Fashion, and they were the proud parents of five children: Veronica, Georgia Mae, Olympia, Robert Louis and Keith. Mrs. Fashion was an employee of the State of South Carolina and worked at the Coastal Center in Ladson. Caring for children with disabilities is a commendable job, and she did it extremely well. She retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Letha Mae grew up in Anderson Baptist Church where she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She later became a faithful member of Mt. Carmel African Methodist Episcopal Church after marrying George. She served the church in numerous capacities including: a Stewardess, member of various Mt. Carmel Choirs, and a member of the E.C. Jones Women's Missionary Society where she served as Treasurer. She also initiated Sunday morning devotion in her home. Mom was an avid lover of flowers and plants and embraced gardening as one of her favorite pastimes. She was an accomplished seamstress and baker, specializing in: bread pudding, pancakes, biscuits and the best blueberry, apple, sweet potato and coconut pies. Marrying into the name Fashion was no coincidence. She enjoyed shopping and was blessed with a sense of classic style. Alethia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Harry and her beloved son, Bob. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her devoted children: Veronica (Ike) Smalls, Georgia F. Brown, Olympia F. Jenkins and Keith R. (Phyllis) Fashion; two loving sisters, Annabelle Bryant and Dorothy Hopkins; one brother, Johnny Small; one brother-in-law, John L. Fashion; three sisters-in-law, Christina Gamble, Naomi Fashion and Eloree Fashion; seven grandchildren: Steven Smalls, Stephanie (Arnold) Hammond, Thomas Ryan Brown, Desmond A. Brown, Michael T. Jenkins, Jr., Rosalind Salethia Brown and Keith Ahmad Fashion; one great grandchild, Aliyah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
