Alfredia M. Spells, daughter of William Manigault and Pearl McNeil Manigault, was born on May 26, 1958 in Charleston, South Carolina. She departed this life on Monday, March 18, 2019 in Huger, South Carolina.
Alfredia, also known as "Fredia" and Darlene, was educated in the public schools of Charleston County, graduating from Wando High School, Class of 1976.
Alfredia was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert W. Alston, Sr., who preceded her in death. She later met and married Abraham Rickie Spells. He also preceded her in death.
Alfredia was a dedicated member of The Ministries of Truth Tabernacle. She served as Superintendent and was a committed member of the choir. Her faith and giving of her time and talents to various church activities were very important to her.
Proverbs 31:22 states, "she dresses in fine linen and purple gowns". As an avid shopper, Darlene could show you what the phrase "shop till you drop" truly meant. Proverbs 31:19 states, "her hands are busy spinning thread and her fingers twisting fiber." Darlene was a talented sweet grass basket maker. Darlene will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and strong faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her loving smile, will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by: her siblings, Harry Nelson, Estelle Sanders and Mary Ann Waterman.
Those who shared the joy of life with her and will cherish her memories are: her children, Robert Alston, Faith Alston and Inderia Spells; two brothers, Frank Gilliard and William Nelson; four sisters, Martha Dawson, Sarah Bell Hott, Leola Barker and Pearl Francina Berry; five grandchildren, Joi Nicole Pearl Alston, Treneay Hope Alston, Ra'Veen Esquire Alston, Zion A'Miyah McEachern and Gabrielle Imani Gaillard; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
