Mrs. Alice R. Plowden, was born on December 25, 1943 in Dorchester County, South Carolina as Alice Ruth Joyner. She was the beloved daughter of the late Elizabeth Joyner. She touched the lives of many with her support, encouragement and strength. Alice was 79 years old when she received her wings to glory on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Trident Hospital in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Alice received her early childhood education at Berkeley Training High School in Moncks Corner, SC. At a young age, she attended Rock Hill Baptist Church in Moncks Corner, SC. Later on she joined Centenary United Methodist Church in Moncks Corner, SC. On August 27, 1966, Alice married the love of her life, the late Thomas Plowden, at the Church of the Holy Trinity in New York City, NY.
Alice and Thomas never had any children, but they took on the role of parenting their younger siblings. In the early seventies, she worked at City Bank in New York City, as a supervisor until she retired in the early nineties. Directly after leaving City Bank, she began working at Columbia University School of the Arts in telecommunications as a manager until she retired in 2006. After retirement, she and her husband relocated to her hometown in Moncks Corner, SC.
Alice was a loving, caring, overprotective, generous person and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a good listener, a shopaholic and gave great advice. Alice loved to play Pet Saga and Candy Crush Soda Saga online. She also known for being the best side seat road rage driver because nobody ever was moving fast enough...for her!
Alice was preceded in death by: her mother; her sweet loving husband; brother, Earl D.C. Dezelle; brothers-in-law, James Robinson and Orville Wilson and nephew, Ricky Chesley.
Alice's fond memories will be cherished by her devoted two sisters, Lorraine J. Robinson of SC and Dorothy Wilson of GA; two brothers, John (Patricia) Dezelle, Jr. of SC and Barry Dezelle of SC; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Dezelle of MA and Mary (Jacques deceased) Williams of VA; two brothers-in-law, Eric (Angela) Chesley of MD and Doran (Sithandazila) Chesley, Sr. of Africa; two godsons, Gerald Bryan and Charles S.R. Horton; nieces and nephews, Monique Joyner of SC, Terrence James of SC (Lorraine), Marcia Wilson (Dorothy) of SC, Danielle Reid of TX, Spencer Jones of SC, Angel Jones of SC, Norman (Renata) Rigby, Jr. of SC and Johnelius Davis of SC, India (Tony) Rigby-Washington of SC (John Jr.), Gabrielle, Jacquetta (Mary) of VA, Angel, Doran, Jr., Megan, Nandi, (Dorian Sr.), Delante, and a host of other relatives and friends. She is also survived by Tramaisha Rigby (India) of SC.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Centenary United Methodist Church, 1831 Old Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC. Viewing will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Centenary UMC Cemetery.
