Alma Reid Cooper, affectionately called "Granny Baby" and "Mama Al" by her family, transitioned from this life into the eternal life on Sunday, July 18, 2010. Alma was born June 16, 1920, a daughter of the late Walter and Flossie Reid. Alma was united in holy matrimony to Frank C. Cooper. Her husband and one daughter Flossie C. Cooper preceded her in death. Alma was a faithful member of Simpson Memorial United Methodist Church where her kind and gentle spirit resonated throughout the congregation. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Ministry and Choir #1. She diligently and generously supported the Simpson Memorial Soup Kitchen and the Girl Scouting ministries. Mrs. Cooper prided herself with her influence in the William M. Raines High School community. In 2003, based on the positive impact she and Mr. Cooper made on the lives of many students, she was inducted into the Raines Hall of Fame. For 25 years, Mrs. Cooper owned and operated Cooper's Corner. She is best remembered for loving, mentoring, and encouraging students to fulfill their educational goals, while enjoying her famous Cooper burgers. She was truly loved and respected by her entire family. On July 18, 1992, her in-laws bestowed upon her the honor of "Grateful Appreciation For Her Love and Being Real to All." Her kindness, love and legacy will live in those left to cherish her memory: sons, Frank V. Cooper and W. Vaughn Cooper (Carolyn); daughter, Joan A. Tyler (Martin); nine grandchildren: Vaunda Davis (Steve), Stacey Cox (Ernest), Eric Hayes (Portia), M. Chris Tyler (Gina), Renee Leonard (Antwan), Anthony Tyler (Terralyn), Brea Cooper, Erica Tyler and Ashlee Cooper; sixteen grandchildren; in-laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
