Obituary

Alphair Montalis Greene, the youngest daughter of the late Eddie and Maybell Simmons Green, was born February 6, 1934, in Shulerville, SC. She departed this life on July 21, 2023.

Alphair received her primary and secondary education in the public schools of Berkeley County. She attended Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. At the age of 19, she moved to New York to further her education and begin a career in medical research. She later became a nurse and worked at North General, Mt. Sinai, and Harlem hospitals. While living in New York, she attended Metropolitan United Methodist Church. After 50 years, she retired and moved back to Shulerville. She returned to Wesley AME Church where she was a member of the Women's Missionary Society, the Stewardess Board, the Pulpit Aid committee, Wesley's healthcare mission, and the church's weekday walkers. She also participated in early morning prayer service and weekly bible study.

Alphair had a tremendous love for animals, especially her chihuahua, Max. Her favorite saying was "take care of yourself, for yourself." She would always remind others to take time to recharge and enjoy life because when you look up, time has passed you by.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Green Sims, and Eddie Mae Green Rearden.

She leaves to cherish her memories:  two nieces, Cheryl Sims-Thomas and Renee Sims; one nephew, Lawrence Rearden; one grandniece, Preshous Rearden; two best friends, Eartha Foy and Eldridge Callum; special friend, Sarah Lee Armstrong; caregiver, Yvonne Davis, and a host of relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Wesley AME Church, 2883 French Santee Road, Jamestown, SC 29453. Interment will be in the church's cemetery.
