Altean Foxworth, the second daughter of the late Samuel and Queenie Mazyck, was born on June 21, 1928 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
She was raised in the Longridge Community of Moncks Corner, SC and attended the community school.
Altean gave her life to the Lord at an early age and became a member of Greater St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church.
She was united in marriage to Edward Foxworth. From their union came two sons, Melvin Ronnie and Gilbert. Her husband preceded her in death, along with her siblings, Anna Laura Smith and Wilmon Mazyck.
Altean worked as a domestic at Baptist College, North Charleston, SC and as a cook at First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner, SC. Cooking was what Altean did. She showed her love by cooking. Friends and family members would request some of her specialties and she would comply. She would begin her holiday cooking months before Thanksgiving. Her freezer would have stacks of pies that she would give to anyone who asked.
Altean's struggle with Dementia began over ten years ago. She had no physical health concerns, so the disease had a slow progression that ended in victory on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
She leaves behind: two sons, Melvin Ronnie (Myron) and Gilbert (Laurel); four grandchildren, Myra Melissa Foxworth (Walter), Melvin Daniel Quincy Foxworth, Lonjae Horton (Ricky) and Bradford Foxworth; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Samuel Mazyck (Julie); one brother-in-law, Joseph Smith; one sister-in-law, Mattie Mazyck; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Altean will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her recipes will be passed down through the family for generations.
