IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Andrew P.
Pinckney
July 6, 1939 – April 11, 2021
Ecclesiastes 3
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
… A time to be born
Andrew Preston Pinckney, the ninth of fourteen children, was born on July 6, 1939 to the late Leila Mack Pinckney and the late Joe Pinckney in the Old Field Section of St. Stephen, South Carolina. After the death of his biological mother, his father, Joe married Louise Blanding Pinckney, when Andrew was three (3) years old.
… A time to die
Andrew departed this life as peacefully as he lived on Sunday night, April 11, 2021 at Trident Hospital after a brief illness.
… A time to build
At an early age, Andrew confessed Christ and became a member of St. Michael Reformed Episcopal Church of St. Stephen, South Carolina. He graduated from Russellville High School in 1962. He later moved to New York and became a member of Burke Avenue Baptist Church, Bronx, NY and worked at the Mermarik Shipyard for an extended length of time. After falling in love and marrying the late Etrula Pinckney, they moved to Chesapeake Bay, VA where he stayed until his services were needed at home to assist in the care of his ailing sister, Albertha. After the passing of Albertha, he redirected his assistance to the care of his stepmother, Louise (Shula) until her passing.
Andrew rejoined St. Michael RE Church after returning to South Carolina and served faithfully as church Sexton, Sunday School Teacher and Missionary in his home church, (which he loved), until his demise. Andrew was a kind-hearted person who would give his last and go out of his way to help family and friends. He never complained and when asked how he was feeling, the answer was always "I'm Fine". He did not like anyone to "fuss" over him, but would rather "fuss" over you.
Preceding Andrew in death are his father, Joe Pinckney; his mother, Lela Mack Pinckney; his stepmother, Louise Blanding Pinckney; his wife, Etrula Pinckney; two brothers, Reuben Pinckney and Leroy Pinckney; two sisters, Albertha Pinckney Addison and Regina Pinckney Lanham.
Andrew leaves to cherish his memories five brothers, Leon Pinckney, of Sylmar, CA, Clarence Pinckney of Charleston, SC, Bobby Pinckney of Bronx, NY, Benjamin Pinckney of Bronx, NY and William James (Bettye) Pinckney of Boise, ID; four sisters, Delphia Pinckney of Summerville, SC, Barbara Ann P. (Larry) Jordan of Bedford Hills, NY, Joann P. Wells of St. Stephen, SC and Delores P. (ZC) Williams of Summerville, SC; two special cousins, Alonzo (Pee Wee) Pinckney and Dorothy Howard; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
