IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann Louise
"Nana" Butler
December 17, 1942 – February 18, 2024
Our beloved Ann Louise Butler, affectionately known as "Nana", was born on December 17, 1942. She was the second of ten children born into a legacy of love by her parents, the late William Butler, Sr. and the late Edna Garnett Butler, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. She was reared and educated in the public schools of Berkeley County, graduating from Berkeley Training High School with the Class of 1960. Ann was joined in holy matrimony to the "love of her life", the late Robert Heyward, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina in 1959. To this union, three beautiful children were born: Valerie Butler, Rose Heyward-Goldsmith and William Seth Heyward.
Ann moved to New York City, where she began to work at Enco Printing Company for over 20 years. In 1969, she began working for Bloomingdale's Department Store in retail for over 35 years. Later, Ann attended New Bethel Way of the Cross Church of Christ regularly and became a member in 1974, under the pastorate of the late Bishop James Henry Hicks. She continued to serve under the pastorate Elder Percy Hicks, and currently Elder Joshua Wilder. She served faithfully on the Pastor's Choir, Senior Choir, Pastor's Aide Club, Willing Workers Club, Tuesday Night Service, and Wednesday Night Tarry Service. In 2021, the church acknowledged her dedicated missionary service and graced her as "Mother Ann Butler."
Ann loved and nurtured all of her siblings and family as a strong matriarch. She would display her love to loved ones with personal gifts, such as GUND teddy bears and customized embroidered towels. Amazing gift wrapping was one of her special talents. Ann enjoyed singing, cooking and shopping; especially shopping for others. During her spare time, she enjoyed watching and discussing the Daytime Soap Operas and most of all, "Kojak."
Early Sunday morning, February 18, 2024, as she called out, "Oh, Jesus" the Lord dispatched His angels to our Beloved Nana's bedside at Lenox Hill Hospital to take her to her eternal home.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Heyward; daughter, Rose Heyward-Goldsmith; great-great grandson, Jamarious Rojer: and brother, Reverend William Cullivan Butler, Jr.
Ann leaves cherished and fond memories with her family to continue her legacy of love: her children, Valerie Butler and William Seth Heyward; two grandsons, Warren J. Butler and Quatie I. Butler; one granddaughter, LaShawn Williams; three great grandchildren: Deonee Jewell Butler, Timia Coates and Tima'd Coates; one great-great grandson, Tristan Coates: her siblings: Herman Butler (Ann) of Riverdale, GA, John Fred Butler, Isaac Butler, Carol B. Myers, of New York City, Dorothy Buckson (Dallas) of Rock Hill, SC, Joseph Butler, Sylvia Butler, and Willis Butler (Minnie) of Moncks Corner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
A visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial service will follow at Grace Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner, SC.
