IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Annie Mae
"Phyllis" Wright
April 6, 1932 – March 1, 2016
"I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith."
~ II Timothy 4:7
Annie Mae "Phyllis" Wright was born on April 6, 1932, in Bonneau, South Carolina. She was the sixth of seven children born to the late Edward and Mary Nelson Wright. Annie Mae transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, in Queens, New York.
At an early age, Annie Mae gave her life to God and became a member of St. John Baptist Church. She received her education in the Berkeley County School System. After graduation, she moved to Charleston, SC with her dear close sister, Evelyn. While residing in Charleston, Annie Mae was employed at the College of Charleston and the Medical University of South Carolina. She later received training as a nursing assistant, secured employment in the field, and relocated to New York City, NY.
After retirement, Annie Mae enjoyed spending time with her son, Alonzo and being a grandmother to her only grandchild, Eric. Alonzo had previously joined his mother in New York City upon graduation from high school and continued to care for her until she went to be home with the Lord. Family was very important to Annie Mae. She was close to her niece, Leola, who was like a daughter to her. They talked several times throughout the week, chatting about family, God, and old times. They even watched their favorite television shows together. Her favorite shows were Dancing With The Stars, The Voice, Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune, just to name a few.
Annie Mae was preceded in death by her siblings, Anna Wright, Evelyn Wright, Thomas Wright and Henry Wright.
Annie Mae leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Mr. Alonzo Wright of Queens, NY; two brothers, Mr. James (Pastor Herlene) Wright of Charleston, SC and Mr. John Wright of Goose Creek, SC; her grandson Mr. Eric (Brittany) Francis-Wright and three great-grandchildren, Christian, Sydney and Parker all of Orange County, NY; special niece, Ms. Leola Wright Jenkins of Charleston, SC; special friends, Ethel Glover, Mary Nelson, Adelle Sommers, Annie Dixon, Marie Hubert and Adrienne Sapp; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
