Obituary

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16 The Reverend Arthur (Randy) Randolph, Jr., a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina was transferred from earth to glory on Friday, February 25, 2011. Randy, as he was affectionately known, the son of the late Reverend Arthur Randolph, Sr. and Carrie Green Randolph was born in McClellanville, South Carolina (South Santee Section) on October 18, 1935. Randy graduated from South Santee Elementary School, Lincoln High School (Class of 1955), Allen University (B.S.), and State University of New York (SUNY) New Paltz (M.Ed). Forever a proponent of continued learning, he attended numerous trainings and seminars in both religion and education. Randy, at an early age, became a member of Greater Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in the South Santee Community. While a member there, he was a very active participant in many programs and activities - one he loved the most was The Friendly Gospel Chorus. On December 23, 1962, Randy married the love of his life, the late Margaret (Nora) Pinckney Randolph. To this union, two children were born, Arthur III (Artie) and Maranda. From 1963 to 1990, Randy was employed by New York State Division for Youth as an Administrator in Hudson, New York. However through divine intervention, Randy turned his thoughts and prayers to spiritual activities. He became an ordained minister in 1977. Over his illustrious pastoral career, he dutifully served his Savior at: St. Thomas African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AMEZ) Church, Haverstraw, NY; Franklin Street AMEZ Church, Kingston, NY; St. John AMEZ Church, Highland Falls, NY; Metropolitan AMEZ Church, Chester, SC; St. Matthews AMEZ Church, Rock Hill, SC; and retired from Tabernacle AMEZ Church, Lesslie, SC. Because of Randy's excellent leadership during his tenure, he was appointed Presiding Elder of the Spartanburg Episcopal District of the AMEZ Church. Randy was a renowned world traveler. Among the places he traveled to were: South Africa, Ghana, Korea, Aruba, Mexico, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands, Spain, Italy, Jerusalem, Canada, Hawaii and several other states across the US. Randy was an active member of Mu Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., South Santee Lodge #2, F. & A.M., PHA, The Kiwanis Club and The Leisuron Club (started in 1960 by his wife). Randy was an avid photographer and videographer both in the United States and abroad. He often photographed the works of the AMEZ Church from the Local to the Connectional levels. He was an activist, counselor, teacher, police chaplain, master chef, barber, youth baseball coach and umpire who loved gadgets of all kinds including his trains, cars and the latest technology found. A distinguished dresser for all occasions, Randy was a caring, loving, smiling, kind, helpful, thoughtful and pleasant person who opened his heart to many children, relatives, friends and parishioners. He truly was A LOVER OF PEOPLE. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Alvin Seymour Randolph, Altinez Miller, Earl Randolph, Charles Randolph and Quincy Randolph. Servant of God, Well done, Your gentle face and patient smile, With sadness we recall; You had a kindly word for each, And died beloved by all. The voice is mute and stilled the heart, That loved us well and true; Ah, bitter was the trial to part, From one so good as you. You are not forgotten loved one, Nor will you ever be; As long as life and memory last, We will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore, As time goes by, we miss you more; Your loving smile, your gentle face, No one can fill your vacant place.
