Aslee Nettie Wheeler Reid, was born on June 14, 1929 in Cordesville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Hagar (Pink) Wheeler and John L. Wheeler.
Aslee received her education in the Berkeley and Charleston County.
Aslee was united in holy matrimony to Theodore Reid, Sr. on April 10, 1949. This union was blessed with nine children. Two sons, Gerald and Henry Lee, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters.
Aslee was a member of Greater Emanuel A.M.E. Church, where she served faithfully on the Gospel Choir and would help the Senior Choir on First Sunday. Aslee was very active in the Adult Sunday School, and loved to attend Vacation Bible School and the Church School Convention.
Aslee loved children. She had a hand in raising a host of children. Working as a Girl Scout Leader and Assistant Leader, her and her sister, Lou
Bertha headed the first Girl Scout Troop for the Cordesville area. She worked faithfully with the Cordesville Community and Christmas Parade. The last function she attended and was involved with was "The Cordesville Community Park" at its grand opening on April 21, 2018.
Aslee enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading, putting puzzles together and playing bingo on her Kindle. Nettie will also be remembered for her ability to recite poems with great elegance.
Aslee" departed this life on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Moncks Corner Medical Center, Moncks Corner, SC.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters: Idabelle W. Butler (Ben), Evelyn Edgerton (Maurice), Mildred R. Smalls (Richard) and Cynthia L. Reid; sons: Theodore Reid, Jr. (Carol), Jerry Reid (Doreen), Jimmie Reid and Dexter Reid (Twylia); a special daughter, Lou E. W. Greene (George); daughter-in-law, Kim Reid; sister, Samuella Marlowe; sisters-in-law, Alonia R. Frazier and Susie Reid; a loving and caring grandson, Cardie Smalls; oldest grandchild, Colleen Wheeler; 33 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; her Wednesday niece and nephew, Doretha and Richard; adopted sister, Lou Bertha White and Gertie Wilson; oldest cousins, Maggie Borden and Virgie Vandross; best friend and cousin, Marie (Mert); her girl always ready to respond when called, Jackie Dawson; her buddy, Bertha L. Bostic; a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousin, other relatives and friends.
