Obituary

Benjamin Louis "Ben" Gantt, Sr., also known as "Little Sam", son of the late Elijah Gant, Sr. and Lottie McGinnis Gant, was born on April 7, 1952 in Huger, South Carolina. He was called home to eternal rest on Monday, August 24, 2020 at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, Charleston, SC.

Ben was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County, graduating from Cainhoy High School, Huger, SC in 1973. He later obtained his Pipe Welding degree from Trident Technical College.

Ben was a faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church, where he served on the Trustee Board and the Church Housekeeping Team.

He was the Community Missionary! He was well known among his loved ones for his candid conversations and laughs.

He was employed with Industrial Acoustic Company, Moncks Corner, SC for many years. He served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge.

Ben was preceded in death by: four brothers, Willie Gant, Christopher Gant, Edward Gant and Harold Gant; and three sisters, Martha White, Cebell Crawford and Elizabeth Smalls.

His loving memories will be cherished by: his children, Benjamin L. Gantt, Jr. and Delores L. Gantt; one grandson, Laron Denmark-Gantt; his siblings, Minister Mary McNeil, Minister Elijah Gant, Jr. (Delores), Minister Marion Gant (Letha), Jessie Mae Lundy, Alberta "Nan" Nesbitt (Paul) and Blondell Bennett (Minister Charles); a brother-in-law, Minister Joseph Smalls, Jr.; a very special niece, Vanessa Gant-Clark; lifelong friends, Linda Kinloch and John "Truck" Washington; a devoted friend, Ms. DaDryia "DeeDee" Simmons; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2020, at Brightman Memorial Cemetery, 1169 Old Church Road, Cordesville, SC, with military honors.
