Benjamin Gethers was born April 11, 1918 in Berkeley County, SC. He was the son of the late Isaac and Rebecca Bryant Gethers. Benjamin received his education in the Berkeley County public schools. He served in the United States Army. Benjamin, also known to many as "Sport" or "Uncle Bubba", was united in holy matrimony to Sally Mae Pressley. This union was blessed with ten children. His wife, two children, Leroy Pressley and Claudia Gethers Martin, and two grandchildren preceded him in death. Benjamin later met Pearlie Mae Goodman and they were joined in holy matrimony. Benjamin was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was baptized under Pastor J. W. Wilson. Benjamin departed this life on January 14, 2009 at Trident Medical Center, Charleston, SC. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his loving wife, Pearlie Mae Goodman Gethers of Charleston, SC; children, Ben Gethers, Johnny (Cora) Gethers, William (Tammi) Gethers all of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Preston (Barbara) Goodman of Charleston, SC, Sylvia (John) Campbell of Rochester, NY, Vergie (Archer) Irvine, Emma Gethers, Louise Gethers, and Julia Gethers all of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two sisters, Lillie Bell (Junior) Pressley and Mary Jane (Johnny) Williams all of Dunn, NC; 48 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
