A Kind and Peaceful Life

Bennie Clay Shell, known to his friends and former coworkers as "Bombshell", was born in Charleston, South Carolina on November 30, 1955 to the late Mrs. Gertrude and Mr. Arthur "Mike" Shell, Sr. Early Sunday morning, on April 23, 2023, Bennie answered God's call and transitioned to his heavenly home, as it is written in Matthew 11:28, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Bennie was a graduate of Middleton High School where he played football with the Middleton Razorbacks. He continued his education at Delaware State College, graduating with the Class of 1977. He loved football and was an exceptional athlete. Bennie played the linebacker position with the Delaware State Hornets. After college, he played in Montreal, Quebec with a professional Canadian football team known as the Canada Alouettes. Bennie was also a die-hard Oakland Raiders fan and had a unique love for motorcycles.

Bennie was a kind and gentle soul who was always willing to help his family and friends in any capacity. His grandchildren affectionately called him "Pop", and he loved having them around. After a tenure of 43 years of hard work and dedicated service, in 2020, Bennie retired from the DuPont-Cooper River Plant where he served as the Fire Captain of the D-shift Fire Brigade for many years.

Bennie had two siblings who preceded him in death, Earthanell and Lawrence Shell. Left to cherish his precious memories are his loving and devoted wife, Linda; his stepsons, Gerod Levey and Jabari Levey (Ashley); his grandchildren, Imani Levy, Layla Limehouse, Ma'ati Levey, Jabari Levey, Jr. and Jakobi Levey; his brothers, Arthur Shell, Jr. (Janice) of Atlanta, GA and Kenneth Shell (Jackie) of Baltimore, MD; five sisters-in-law, Lila Mae President of Charleston, SC, Nancy Levey, Inez Levey, Geneva Fleming (Walter) all of Moncks Corner, SC and Stella Harper (Grayling) of Goose Creek, SC; one brother-in-law, Earl Levey (Anna); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Moncks Corner Baptist Church, 496 East Main Street, Moncks Corner, SC.
