IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bertha Lee
Nelson
October 24, 1926 – December 9, 2023
Bertha Lee Washington Nelson, a mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to so many over her 97 years here on earth, took her final breath on December 9, 2023.
Bertha Lee was born to the late Ransome and Ida Green Washington Johnson-Jones on October 24, 1926. She was preceded in death by all seven of her siblings: Carrie, Benjamin, Isabel, Essie Mae, Sarah, Lee Arthur, and James Alford. She met and married the love her of life of 62 years, the late Francis "Frank" Nelson, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Bertha Ann "Newts" Nelson on November 7, 2023.
She was an avid houseworker at the home of the Young Family in Pinopolis. She was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Pinopolis where she served on many auxiliaries: Senior Choir, Communion Steward, Hospitality Committee and the Willing Workers of Moncks Corner to name a few.
Her green thumb found expression in the beautiful flowers she cultivated on her porch, which was not only a source of joy for her but also a serene sanctuary for her loved ones. Her passion for fellowship with others was welcomed, front door open awaiting family and friends, her home, a place for laughter and comfort.
Bertha Lee legacy endures through the lives she touched with her wisdom, kindness, and selflessness, leaving a lasting imprint of love and caring in the hearts of all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memories of her to hold dear to their hearts: two sons, Francis "Possum" Nelson, Jr. (Sheila) of Moncks Corner, SC and Nathan "Cut" Nelson (Angela) of Pineville, SC; four daughters, Mary "Mommagal" Walker (Jimmy) of St. George, SC, Ida "Doodle" Williams (Charles), Sharon "Cookie" Nelson, and Trena Nelson-Rivers (Gregory) of Moncks Corner, SC; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; a special sister, Ida M. Proctor of Philadelphia, PA; one brother-in-law, York Smith of Moncks Corner, SC; a numerous number of nieces and nephews she loved so dearly; family, friends, and the West End Community.
Bertha Lee is now with her Heavenly Father and is enjoying the company of her husband Frank, their daughter Bertha Ann "Newts", her parents and those family and friends that have gone before her.
When peace like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll.
Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say…
IT IS WELL, IT IS WELL, WITH MY SOUL
