On March 15, 2016, our beloved Savior in His infinite wisdom and mercy called our beloved mother to His bosom, away from all earthly suffering.  Our mother was born to the late Reverend John W. and Irelia Wallace (Sumpter) on June 30, 1921 in St. Stephen, South Carolina.  She was one of nine siblings, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.  Bertha was educated in the Berkeley County Schools.

Our mother never shied away from the work of God.  She began her religious campaign for Christ at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in St. Stephen Parish, South Carolina.  She never wavered in her struggle to serve the Lord.  Shortly after moving to New York City in 1953, Bertha discovered Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church.  She eventually joined the congregation and became a steadfast and faithful member until health issues prevented her from attending regularly.

Bertha (aka Bert) was married to the late Robert Warren.  This union produced three children.  Bertha worked in various capacities during her life in New York City.  She worked in manufacturing, commercial services industry and healthcare for many years; however Park Terrace Nursing Home gave her the greatest sense of purpose and satisfaction in life.  She enjoyed providing care for the elderly, being a good listener, and a companion to them prior to her retirement.

She leaves two sisters to cherish her memories, Catherine Wimberly, St. Stephen, SC and Martha McBride, Brownsville, NJ.  Her children:  Pelzer J (Mozella), Valrico, FL; Joyce, New York, NY and JoAnn (Phillip), Tobyhanna, PA and five grandchildren:  Tassima, Tanesha, Brian, Vincent and Michael.  She also leaves two great-grandchildren:  Ivy Rose and Meleania, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  A special thanks goes to her home care companions, Osela and Renee for their service and friendship for the last five plus years.
