Life Sketch Early Sunday morning on May 18, 2015, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom removed from this life the soul of Betty Jean Rhames-Vulpi. Betty was born on June 17, 1940 in Pineville, South Carolina to Henry and Elizabeth Washington Brown. Betty was one of five children born to that union. She attended the public schools of Berkeley County, graduating from Russellville High School in June 1960. During her childhood years, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined Redeemer Episcopal Church in Pineville, SC. As a young adult, Betty relocated to the Northeast, living in New Jersey and New York. In 1963, she married Harold Rhames, Sr. From this union four children were born. Harold preceded her in death. In 1983, Betty started her work at Wonder Bread in Queens, NY. After 20 years of service, she retired as the Head Wrapper in June 2003. In the mid 1990's, Betty answered God's call and became an active member of the Bethel Emanuel Temple Church of God in Christ. Under the guidance of the late Mother Sarah M. Hankins, Betty was president of several of the following organizations: Choir, Usher, Hospitality and Vice President of the Board of Directors of Bethel Mission Church Day Care Centers in Far Rockaway, NY. She also served on the Bereavement staff, Pastoral Aid team and the Women's Department. Betty served the church well until her health began to fail. It was then that Betty began to attend the Maranatha Baptist Church because it was closer to her home. Betty's precious memories live on in: her children, Harold Rhames, Jr., Tyrone Rhames, Donna Rhames and Kevin Rhames (Marilyn); her grandchildren, Justin, Totiana, Jestine, Estee, Tyanne, Tyrone, Jr., Naomi, Elise and Kevin Rhames, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Faith, Justice, and Aiah'Jae Rhames; her brothers, Theodore Brown (Lena), Charlie Brown (Margaret) and James Brown; sisters-in-law, Eunice Lewis, Eleanor Foster and Catherine Rhames; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Thank you!
