Obituary

Bishop Joseph Wigfall was born May 22, 1916 in Berkeley County, South Carolina.  He departed this life March 13, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.

Bishop Wigfall was united in holy matrimony in 1942 to Bertha Roper, who preceded him in death on December 21, 2009. They relocated to Camp Knight, CA in 1944 where Bishop Wigfall served in the United States Army.

Because of their strong conviction to become missionaries, Bishop Wigfall and his wife enrolled in Patten College and Seminary in 1945, and graduated in June 1949. In the fall of 1949, they took their first missionary journey to the island of Jamaica, West Indies.  In a very short time, the responses from the people were very gratifying.  This was the beginning of the Equator Faith Mission Association in Oakland, CA, Jamaica, Haiti, West India, and East Africa.  Now there are four churches in Jamaica going on for the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Mission has established 25 churches and 18 schools in Haiti and also nutrition centers, an orphanage with the support of two others, and a medical clinic to meet the needs in the schools, the churches, and the community.

Bishop Wigfall and his wife, Missionary Wigfall were responsible for constructing a Water Dam to meet the needs of the whole community in East Africa.  Some people traveled approximately 12 miles to get water from the Dam.  Water is now being piped from that Dam to three different communities and the people are full of joy and gladness for the water of eternal life and for the natural water of life.

Not only has Bishop Wigfall traveled extensively to deliver the gospel in the U.S, but also in Africa, Canada, Egypt, and the Caribbean Islands.  He spread the true gospel of Jesus Christ so others may receive Christ.

Bishop Wigfall will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God and his kindness, compassion and love that he showed to all people.

He leaves to cherish and continue his legacy: sister-in-law, Mrs. Louise Roper Harris of Summerville, SC; goddaughter, Mrs. Bertha Roper Davis (David) of Moncks Corner, SC; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives, friends, his church family and many spiritual children all over the world.
