IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brenda Lee
Matthews Alston
February 11, 1961 – April 24, 2019
Brenda Lee Matthews Alston, the daughter of the late Leon Cooper, Jr. and the late Irene Clark, was born on February 11, 1961 in Jamestown, South Carolina. Early Wednesday morning, April 24, 2019, God saw a need for another angel to watch over us. After fighting a long battle with her health, Brenda answered God's call and departed this life.
Brenda earned her high school diploma from Macedonia High School in 1979. She furthered her education by attending Charleston Baptist College. While there, she was working on an Associate of Arts degree in Business.
Brenda accepted Christ at an early age when she joined New Emanuel A.M.E. Church. She was a member of the Young Adult Choir, Junior Choir, Usher Board, Sunday School, and she served on the Trustee Board. She was faithful in serving God until her health began to fail her. And, even when she started having health issues, she continued to be a soldier of God.
She was united in holy matrimony to Joseph Alston on May 23, 1992. To this union, they were blessed to have one child.
Brenda really enjoyed reading her bible, listening to music, talking to her friends and family, and travelling. Her friends and family could always count on her for directions to different places and directions in life.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a husband of 26 years, Joseph Alston; a daughter, Jovonna Alston; five siblings, Basil (Selina) Walker, Sabrena Conty, Tamara Campbell, Gwenae Cooper and David (Anna) Allen; three sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Samuel) Vanderhorst, Stephanie (Curtis) Rutledge, Monice (Willie) Weatherspoon; one brother-in-law, Matthew Alston; eight aunts, Carol (Wilma) Rowe, Barbara (Ricky) Blair, Vernell Livingston, Dotherine (James) Flowers, Dorothy Alston, Bertha Cooper, Diane (Cleveland) Britton, Mauda (William, Jr.) Tucker; five uncles, Henry (Renee) Allen, Robert Cooper, Sr., Jonathan (Gwendolyn) Cooper, Walter (Deloris) Cooper, and Lynn Cooper; four friends who were like sisters, Mary (John) McCloud, Annabell Nixon, Betty Nixon, Billy Williamson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
