Carthrell A. Butler, known to many as "Carl", was born October 28, 1952 in Moncks Corner, SC, a son of Leon Butler and Celia Ann Addison Butler. He departed this life on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Trident Medical Center, North Charleston, SC.

Carl received his education in the public schools of Berkeley County, SC. He enlisted in the United States Army and faithfully served his country for eight years. After an honorable discharge, he was employed as a Correctional Officer with the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

Carl accepted Christ as his Savior and became a member of Grace Reformed Episcopal Church where he served on the Kitchen Committee.

Carl was united in holy matrimony to Patricia Austin.

Carl loved sports, especially basketball and football. He played basketball with the Moncks Corner Wildcats and football with the Charleston Seahawks. He also used his basketball expertise as a referee for many games. Carl was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. His other pastimes were cooking and listening to "Old School" music. Carl never met a stranger and touched the lives of many. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and laugh and his great cooking.

Carl leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Patricia Butler; children, Derrell Jenkins, Brittney Pryor Butler, Patrick L. Pryor, LaTonya Jenkins, Therode Shine and David Shine; grandson, JJ, who was his heart; siblings, Helen A. (James) Davis, Johnnie (Anna) Hutchinson, Ralph (Sandra) Butler, Kenneth Butler, Anthony (Cindy) Butler, Wanda Butler (Raymond) President, Harold (Bonnie) Scott, and David Mack; aunts, Eliza Giwa and Dorothy Howard; mother-in-law, Mary Lee Williams; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Celia Butler; brothers, Gary and Arthur Butler; and sisters-in-law, Janice and Karen Butler.
