Carl Leon Smalls, son of the late Clarence and Eva Mae Smalls, was born on August 3, 1960 at Berkeley County Hospital, Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He transitioned from this life on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at his residence.

At a very young age, his family relocated to New York City, where he spent over 30 years of his life. Carl graduated from Brandeis High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he gave two years of service. He later joined the National Guard Reserves.

On February 5, 2005, he married his long-term partner, Elizabeth Thompson. This union was blessed with six children. After living in the city for many years, Carl and his wife decided to move back to his hometown in Moncks Corner, SC.

A man of few words, Carl was a devoted husband, loving father and an avid Call of Duty player. He loved his peanuts, soda pop and action-filled shows. Once you got to really know him, you would've heard him crack a joke or two. Carl was a proud member of Moncks Corner Lodge #323 and Thurgood Marshall Consistory #367.

He also served his community as an employee of the Berkeley County School District, where he served as a Supervisor in the Grounds Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his devoted wife, Elizabeth Smalls; loving children, Kenneth Bazemore, Carl Smalls, Jr. (Josie), Jessica Bruno (Clifton), Eva Smalls (Curtis), Rebecca Milford (Julian) and Clarence Smalls; a loving brother, Tyrone Smalls; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024, 12:00 p.m., at WG&H Temple, 1372 New Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC. Burial will be in Old Nazareth Cemetery, Pinopolis, SC. Viewing will be held Friday, August 9, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. There will be NO VIEWING on Saturday.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica & Clifton Bruno, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
