Obituary

Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? I Corinthians 15:54-55

Reverend Catherine Snipes Washington departed this life suddenly on August 28, 2020 at the Moncks Corner Medical Plaza Emergency Room in Moncks Corner, SC, with her family at her side.

Reverend Washington was born on April 28, 1941 to the late Mr. O.B. Miller Sr. and the late Mrs. Janie P. Folk Miller in Brundidge, Alabama. From an early age, her parents taught her by precept and example the virtues of living a consecrated life dedicated to living a Godly life and walking with the Lord. Reverend Washington gave her life to Christ, was baptized, and joined the AME Church of Brundidge, Alabama. When her parents relocated to Moncks Corner, SC, she joined the St. James AME Church, her church later merged with the Graham AME Church, forming the Moncks Corner AME Church of Moncks Corner, SC. She served as a faithful member of the Jubilee Choir and the Usher Board, until she was called a high work for the Lord. Reverend Washington was united in Holy matrimony to the late Mr. Leroy Snipes of Strawberry, SC, to that union several children were born.

Reverend Washington was educated in the Berkeley County School System, she furthered her education and became a certified CNA and a Home Health Nurse in both Berkeley and Charleston counties. She also worked for the Medical University of South Carolina, there she was employed as an Administrative Assistant and an Anatomy Technician in the Department of Anatomy and the College of Science.

Reverend Washington accepted the call of Christ upon her life, preached her trial sermon and became a Licentiate of the Moncks Corner AME Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend James Glisson. She later became a Local Itinerant Elder under the pastorate of newly appointed Presiding Elder Reverend Sandy Drayton. She remained a single parent for many years raising her children with the fear of the Lord, until God placed the late Mr. Moses Washington in her life. They were united in Holy matrimony and lived happily ever after until God called her husband to his earthly reward to his eternal home.

Her favorite hobbies included: home decorating, gardening, fishing, sport and family gatherings. Reverend Washington was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, five sons, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Commemorating her fond memories are her children: Rev. Dr. R. Bernardo Xavier Snipes (Antoinette) of Manassas, VA, Mrs. Janice Bradley (Joe Nathan Sr.) of Pineville, SC, Evangelist Janette McKenny (Alexander) of St. Louis, MO, Minister Regina Snipes Jones of North Charleston, SC, Mrs. Tawanda Tolliver-McHenry (James) and Ms. Albert Myers both of Goose Creek, SC; three step-daughters, Mrs. Lelia Dennard (David), Mrs. Willa Mae Rouse both of Atlanta, GA and Evangelist Emma Jane King of Gary, IN; two sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Nelson and Mrs. Angienet McFadden (Rodger); three brothers, Mr. O.B.
