Catherine Wimberly was born on July 15, 1917 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. She was a daughter of the late Irelia Sumpter Wallace and Reverend John Wallace. She transitioned to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Lake Moultrie Nursery Home, St. Stephen, SC.
Catherine received her education in the Berkeley County schools. She migrated to New York City and became gainfully employed.
Catherine was united in holy matrimony to France Wimberly who preceded her in death.
At an early age, Catherine accepted Christ as her personal Savior at St. Paul M. E. Church. When she migrated to New York, she joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church. She served there faithfully and worked diligently for many years. She was President of the Pastor's Aide as well as many other auxiliary groups. When she returned to St. Stephen, SC, she became a member of Allen A.M.E. Church and served until her health declined.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved daughter, Annie M. Wallace Eure of St. Stephen, SC; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha McBride of Brownsville, NY; very good friends, Ethel M. Brown and Dorothy Blanding; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A Home Going Celebration Service will held Saturday, March 21, 2020, 11:00 a.m., at Allen AME Church, 280 Hood Street, St. Stephen, SC. Burial will be in Tri-Churches Cemetery. Viewing will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. There will be no viewing after the service.
