Obituary

Mr. Cephas L. Addison, a son of the late Willie and Maggie Addison, was born on June 15, 1941 in St. Stephen, South Carolina. On Sunday, December 2, 2018, he was called home, surrounded by his family and friends.

Cephas attended the public schools of Berkeley County, graduating from Russellville High School in 1959. He later went on to serve in the United States Air Force. After serving his country, he made his mark as an Insurance Agent for a prestigious insurance company, John Hancock, where he received several awards for outstanding performance.

Cephas was joined in Holy Matrimony to Lillie Mae Simmons on July 6, 1968, a marriage that lasted for 50 years. They resided in New Jersey for a brief time and then moved to St. Stephen, SC, where they settled down to raise their three children.

Cephas was a man who never said no. If you needed a ride, he was there. If you needed help putting something together, he was there. If you needed a remedy for a persistent cold, he would brew you his famous, "Catfoot Tea." There was never a situation too big or too small where he wasn't ready to lend a helping hand. Cephas was a family man who cared deeply for his wife, children and those around him.

He leaves to celebrate and cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Lillie Mae Addison and their three children: Cephas (Tonya) Addison, Jr. of North Charleston, SC, Laura (Shawn) Marion of Lanham, MD and Carleen "Cookie" (Joseph) Franks of St. Stephen, SC; twelve grandchildren: LaShawn, Tre', Tiffany, Kiara, Lake, Justin, Jordan, Jasmyne, Dakota, Jalynn, Jayla and Jonathan; two great-grandchildren, Tyson and DeAndre Jr.; five sisters: Willie Mae Andrews of St. Stephen, SC, Reverend Mary Ann (Reverend Charlie) Goodman of Moncks Corner, SC, Lillie (Reverend Dr. Whittaker) Middleton of Orangeburg, SC, Thelma (Reverend Ronald) Casey of St. Stephen, SC and Reatha (Al) Limehouse of Macon, GA; two brothers, Samuel Broughton of Jersey City, NJ and Douglas (Kathleen) Addison of St. Stephen, SC; seven sisters-in-law: Annie Dezurn, Evelyn Thurman, Josephine Smith, Thelma Wooten, Oreatha Farmer and Otha Mae Vice all of Baltimore, MD and Jessie Lee Johnson of St. Stephen, SC; two brothers-in-law, George (Roslyn) Simmons and Rubin Simmons both of Jamestown, SC; four aunts: Elease Addison of Brooklyn, NY, Isabel Anderson, Iva Mae Armstrong and Maybelle Addison all of St. Stephen, SC; one uncle, Mr. Charlie Broughton of St. Stephen, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cephas's wonderful spirit and talents will be missed, but will be forever cherished in the hearts and lives of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister Marie Johnson and his brother Willie James Addison.
