Charlie Nathaniel Smith, son of the late Royal Smith and Shirley J. Smith, was born on April 23, 1958 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. He departed this life on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Trident Medical Center, Charleston, South Carolina.
Chucky as he was known to many, attended the public schools of Berkeley County, graduating from Macedonia High School, Class of 1976. He attended S.C. State college for a year, later transferring to Benedict College, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Business.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Pearlie M. Brown on April 16, 1988.
Chucky loved to work with electricity, and began his career working at Mead Westvaco, where he was employed for 32 years, until his health forced him into retirement.
Chucky was a member of Liberty Reformed Episcopal Church. He was an avid fisherman and was a devoted Washington Redskins fanatic.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Omar V. Washington of Goose Creek, SC and Kenny Young of Summerville, SC; one daughter, Katie Young of Lawrenceville, GA; one stepdaughter, Eunique T. Brown of Moncks Corner, SC; two granddaughters; one step grandson; one brother, Royal J. Smith of Jamestown, SC; one sister, Sheraldine Fulmore of Jamestown, SC; half sister, Linda Wigfall of Moncks Corner, SC; foster sister, Estell Rodriguez of Andrews, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Royal and Shirley Smith; sister, Sandra Lee Walker; brother, Ronald Smith and a half sister, Patricia Ramsey.
