Clarence "Boy" Gethers was born on August 7, 1937, to the late Ella Mae and Nero Palmer in Alvin, South Carolina, and raised by the late Isaac and Rebecca Gethers. He transitioned peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Clarence was baptized at an early age and became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

He spent several years in Pahokee, FL. On September 25, 1957, Clarence married the love of his life, Ethel Prioleau. The union resulted in five children.

In his early career, Clarence worked as a logger. Later, he was employed at Santee River Wool Company for over 40 years until his retirement.

He was known for being handy, designing various creative elements of his homes. He was a baker, known for his fruit and jelly layer cakes. He was also an avid gardener, growing everything from watermelons to all kinds of vegetables. He was truly a jack of all trades.

Those left to cherish loving memories are his wife of 67 years, Ethel P. Gethers; his children: Rickey (Marcia) Gethers of Baltimore, MD, Katrina Croker of Russellville, SC,  Brenda (Larry) Brown and Judy Gethers of Alvin, SC, Ananicquia (Virgil) Cradic of St. Stephen, SC and Alicia Gipson of Harker Heights, TX; special grandchild, Robin Palmer and special great-grandchild, Amia Cleveland; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Mae Martin; and those reared as siblings: Joyce (Charlie) Watson, Hannah Nails, Diane (Reverend Ronald) Washington, Gladys (Tony) Blake, Alice (Kizer) Miller, and Lisa (Eric) Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lowengia Gethers Cleveland; sister, Martha Williams; brothers, Nero Palmer Jr., Robert Lee Palmer and Randy Palmer

A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2024, 1:00 p.m., at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2449 Santee River Road, Alvin, SC. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Memorial Cemetery on Greentown Road, Alvin, SC.

The family will be receiving friends at their residence beginning Friday, November 1, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily.
