Clarence Simmons, son of Eugene and Maggie Morton Simmons, was born on March 3, 1939 in the Longridge Community of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He departed this life on Thursday, May 2, 2019 in Bennettsville, South Carolina.
Clarence attended the public schools of Berkeley County.
He accepted Christ as his savior many years ago at Greater St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Clarence was employed as a tree stumper for many years. After working for a few years, he became the proprietor of his own stump removal business, for a little over 12 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved watching wrestling and football on TV.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Clarence Simmons, Jr.; his siblings, Rose Jackson and Jimmy Simmons; and a sister-in-law, Annielee Simmons.
Those left to cherish his memories are: his wife, Geraldine Simmons of Goose Creek, SC; his children, Phyllis A. (John) Brodie, Delores (Michael) Byng, Emma J. (Norman) Appleton, Wyvette (James) Douglas, Kim Thompson and Keisher Thompson; his brothers, Curlin (Virginia) Simmons, Henry (Rodella) Simmons and Envie Simmons; a brother-in-law, St. Clair Jackson; a sister-in-law, Sara Simmons; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his special companion, Christine Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
