IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Davis,
Jr.
April 23, 1934 – September 14, 2019
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7
David Davis, Jr., a son of the late David Davis, Sr. and Alice Harrison Davis, was born April 23, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York. His parents enjoyed the city life of New York, but the environment presented challenges for their children. They moved the family to Cayce, South Carolina for a better education and safer environment. David Jr. was educated in the public school system of Richland County. He earned his Bachelor of Education degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois.
David enlisted in the United States Air Force and dedicated 20 years of service to his country as a Missile Specialist and a Supply Clerk. After an honorable discharge and retirement from the military, he became employed with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Handler. He served there faithfully for 20 years until he retired.
David was united in holy matrimony to Bertha Roper on April 1, 1961. This union was blessed with three children: Reginald Jerome, Jacqueline Bonita and Michael Roger. This union of 58 years was blessed with love and with many happy times together.
David was reared in a home full of Christian values instilled in him by his parents. His Christian pilgrimage began at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Cayce, SC where he was baptized and confirmed. In 1999, he joined Greater Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Moncks Corner, SC. There he served as a Trustee and was instrumental in the building improvements and renovation of the church.
David was very committed and dedicated to his church service and his family. He always strived to be the best for his church, community, and family. He was willing to serve and help others in any capacity needed. Two loves could always be seen in his life – a love for his family and a love for the elderly. As he grew in his Christian walk, he increased his love for service to others as well. He was a blessing to many. David was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
In addition, David loved playing pool, listening to jazz, fishing and watching sports on television,
On September 14, 2019, David answered the calling, "Come Home, I have a place prepared for you, come home." He quietly transitioned into a state of peace to eternal life to be with the Lord.
He leaves to honor and cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Bertha R. Davis; his loving children, Reginald Jerome Davis (Satomi), Jacqueline Bonita Davis, and Michael Roger Davis (LaTarsha); grandchildren, Miles Alexander Davis, TaShayla Thomas Davis, Regginald Thomas Davis and Brian Short; brother Shelly Davis (Margaret) and friend, Patricia; a special niece, Vanetta Blakeley; a favorite cousin, Bernethia Veil; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunt, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his sister, Pearl Hunter.
