IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Deacon Woodrow
Armstrong
September 10, 1940 – December 28, 2015
To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant,
and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones,
and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace,
and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
a time of war, and a time of peace.
~ Ec clesiastes 3:1-8 (KJV)
Deacon Woodrow Armstrong, the son of the late Gladys Armstrong and Thomas McIntyre, was born on September 10, 1940 in Rocky Point, North Carolina. On Monday, December 28, 2015, Woodrow heard the call, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord." Being one of God's soldiers, he transitioned into eternal life with the Lord.
Acknowledging his blessings from above, Woodrow confessed Christ at an early age. He graduated from Pender High School, Rocky Point, NC. After graduating, he moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he was employed for many years as a Culinary Designer. While living in Brooklyn, Woodrow was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he was ordained a Deacon.
In 1961, Woodrow was united in holy matrimony to Iva Mae Addison. To this union, six children were born and two children were adopted. In 1976, Woodrow relocated his family to St. Stephen, South Carolina where he joined St. Stephen Baptist Church. He served faithfully as a Deacon and in other capacities in the church. He was faithful in all of his ministries until his health began to decline.
Woodrow secured many managerial positions, one being Supervisor of the Food Service Department at MacDougall Correctional Institution, Ridgeville, SC. Woodrow then found his love for law enforcement and began his career as a Berkeley County Sheriff Deputy and then as a Police Officer for the Town of St. Stephen. He later was employed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) as a Natural Resource Officer and retired from there after many years of dedicated service.
Woodrow was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who set an example of Christian living. He was deeply loved by the Old Field community. He was known as an avid fisherman and hunter. He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and love for people.
Woodrow was preceded in death by one son, Antony Armstrong, two brothers and three sisters.
Left on earth to treasure his memories are: his loving wife of 54 years, Iva Mae Armstrong; five children, Woodrow (Beverly) Armstrong, Jr. of Summerville, SC, David (Pamela) Armstrong, Jermaine Armstrong both of Lithonia, GA, Shanta Armstrong of Monroe, NC and Deacon Dave (Lakesha) Armstrong of Irmo, SC; daughter-in-law, Tara Armstrong of Conyers, GA; two adopted children, Elizabeth (Joseph) Gethers of Pineville, SC and Rev.
