Obituary

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.  Matthew 5:4

On January 12, 2021, Deacon Earl Benjamins Pollins, Sr. embraced the arms of the Lord. He laid aside all of his burdens and received his crown of righteousness, which the Lord awarded him on that day.

Earl was born on January 2, 1946 in Savannah, Georgia, son of the late Rosa Sheftall Pollins and Haddon Philip Pollins. He was educated in the Jasper County Public Schools where he received his high school diploma from Jasper High School. He met the love of his life, Jonnie Marie Adkins, and they were united in holy matrimony on January 31, 1971.

In 1981, the US Railroad transferred Earl and his family to Moncks Corner, South Carolina, where he accepted Jesus Christ into his life. He joined Tabernacle of Prayer for All People under the leadership of the late Apostle Johnnie Washington and pastored by Elder Arthur Manigault. Earl was ordained a Deacon at Tabernacle of Prayer. Later in life, he and the family joined Life Changers Covenant Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Charlie Redish where he served faithfully for over 30 years until his health declined.

Earl resided at Heartland Health and Rehabilitation Care Center in Hanahan, South Carolina from 2017 until his transitioning. He enjoyed spending time with the other residents in the dining hall during social activities such as church services, games, arts and crafts, and watching television.

Earl was a loving and strong patriarch, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He was a generous kind-hearted person who was willing to give himself selflessly to help others.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Jonnie Marie Adkins Pollins; his brothers, Philip and Richard Pollins; and his sister, Ettalou Pollins Polite.

Those who will forever cherish fond memories are: his two daughters, Jacqueline Adkins Harris (Tommy) of Portsmouth, VA and Kaleisha Pollins (Javon) of Moncks Corner, SC; five sons, Earl Pollins Jr. of Allendale, SC, Kevin Pollins (Janette) of Springfield, MA, Bobby Adkins (LaToya) of Charleston, SC, Daryl Pollins (Elizabeth) and Bryant Polins of Rocky Mount, NC; eighteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
