Deacon Solomon Bryan, son of the late Lic. Primus Bryan and Mrs. Elouise Smalls Bryan, was born July 13, 1929 in Moncks Corner, SC. He departed this life on Sunday, May 28, 2017.
Deacon Bryan received his education in the public schools of Berkeley County, and he received a Welding Degree from Denmark Technical College, Denmark, SC. He served in the United States Army and the Army Reserves from January 22, 1951 to October 21, 1957. He was employed at the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 37 years and retired in 1989.
On October 15, 1955, Solomon was united in holy matrimony to Mary Simmons. This union was blessed with six children - three boys and three girls.
Deacon Bryan was a member of St. John Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, President of the Usher Board, and mentor to all members. He served as secretary of St. James Union for many years. He was also a member of Jefferson-Grant Lodge #315, F.&A.M.
He was affectionately known as "Uncle Sonny" or "Cousin Saul". He was a great husband and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend. He enjoyed farming, welding, building and repairing things. Whatever the task may be, he coud figure it out. He was a true man of God, and his faith was unwavering until the very end.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Bryan; sisters, Harriet McFadden, Julie Perry, Wilhemenia Fashion and Inez Reid; and a great-granddaughter, Brielle Lampkin.
Those who remain to grow from being loved by him: his beloved and devoted wife, Mary S. Bryan; his sons, Alonzo Wright of Queens, NY, Deacon Benjamin S. (Sheila) Bryan, Raymond M. (Mary) Bryan, Nathaniel L. (Natanya) Bryan all of Moncks Corner, SC; daughters, Linda B. (Elder Curtis) Squirewell of Ridgeway, SC, Shelia B. (Norman) Lampkin of Alvin, SC and Latasha B. (Robert) Ingram of Fort Mill, SC; two grandsons who were raised in the home, Travis B. Dennis and Estrada L. Dennis; two sisters, Nettie Bryan of Bronx, NY and Nancy E. Manigault of Moncks Corner, SC; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly .
