With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the peaceful transition of Deaconess Sulie M. McKelvey of St. Stephen, South Carolina, who entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Monday, April 13, 2026.
A woman of grace, wisdom, and quiet strength, Deaconess McKelvey lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love. She was a devoted member of Holy Rock Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as an Usher, Deaconess, Choir member, and Missionary.
Deaconess McKelvey was a woman of many gifts and talents. She found joy in cooking, gardening, sewing, and crocheting—expressions of love she generously shared with others. She was also known for her engaging Gullah presentations, which brought culture, history, and joy to all who experienced them. Her warm spirit, creativity, and nurturing heart will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry McKelvey, and her son, Henry Ivan McKelvey.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her loving daughters, Machelle Jeanette McKelvey and Yolanda Monique June; her bonus son, Leon Maxwell (Angela); her granddaughter whom she reared as her own, Winter Swinton (Kendrick); her daughter-in-law, Darlene McKelvey; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends whose lives she touched in countless ways.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m,. at Gethers St. Stephen Chapel, 221 Church Road, St. Stephen, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 1084 Imperial Drive, St. Stephen, SC. Interment will follow in Murphy McCants Prioleau Cemetery, Cross, South Carolina.
The family will be receiving friends daily from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the home of her daughter-in-law, Darlene McKelvey.
We humbly ask that you keep the McKelvey family lifted in prayer and surround them with love, comfort, and support during this season of bereavement.
