Obituary

Derrick Raymond DeBonio Case was born on September 29, 1945 to Lester and Linda Case in Kingston, Jamaica. He was the third of their eleven children and led a weighty, impactful life that contrasted notably with his small physical stature.

Derrick was a pioneer and graduate of St. Andrew Technical High School in Jamaica, where he was a Lance Corporal in the Cadet Corp. Over the course of his lifetime, he pursued a variety of careers and several business and vocational ventures that ranged from retailing to home repairs. He was co-founder of Christ Child International, a non-profit organization with a mission to help underprivileged children at home and abroad. He was an amateur photographer with a vast photographic chronicle of all things family. In addition to getting together with family and friends, he enjoyed fishing, boating, nature and, in his latter years, farming.

Derrick was known for his unfailing optimism, dogged determination and an adventurous spirit that saw him through his various career ventures, personal renaissances and new beginnings. He had a riotous sense of humor and an infectious laugh that was almost impossible to resist. He was a believer in impossibilities with a gift of encouragement, was quick to forgive and often the first to seek reconciliation.  His sometimes-mischievous nature was always counterbalanced with kindness, empathy, a listening ear, and a willingness to be of service wherever he could.

As he neared the end of his earthly journey, Derrick fervently reaffirmed his lifelong faith in Christ and expressed a desire to reconnect  with loved ones near and far and an even deeper longing for the ultimate reunion in the life to come. Following surgery for a complex health issue, he expressed thanks and praise to God for the new beginning he believed he was about to embark on, but that new beginning turned out to be on the other side of his earthly existence.

He left unexpectedly on January 30, 2021. Preceding him on his heavenward journey are his parents Lester and Linda, grandson Christian, brother George and niece Jeneen.

He leaves behind his wife Marylene (aka Marie), 11 children—Shannette, Raymond, Cheraine, Lee, David, Jamieson, Zari, Deavion, Delisea, Daniella and Delroy—14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren,  9 siblings, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends with whom he shared both new and lifelong cherished relationships.

The family will have a Private Funeral Service. The service will be live-streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/gethersfh
