Obituary

Diana Green Darby, the second oldest child of the late Geneva Henry-Green and Henderson Green, Sr., was born December 31, 1930 in Lane, SC.

Her family moved to St. Stephen in 1933. Diana attended the public schools of Berkeley County. At an early age, she met the love of her life, Samuel Darby. They were married June 15, 1946. They were blessed with five children: Gailya, Franklin, Michael, Betty and Cheryl Darby.

In the early fifties, Diana and her family moved to Hartford, CT. She earned her GED from Hartford High School and took classes at the University of Hartford. She later received a Certificate in Accounting from Hartford Business School.

Diana worked at Aetna Insurance for many years; she also worked as a bookkeeper for Hartford Board of Education until her retirement.

In 1989, Diana and her husband moved back to St. Stephen. She enjoyed working and beautifying her yard. She loved beautiful flowers.

She was a member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church, Hartford, CT. She was an active church member of New Light United Methodist Church, formerly known as Zion United Methodist Church, until her health began to decline. She sang in the choir and served on many boards. She was also active in her community; Diana was a doer and willing helper.

Diana enjoyed her grandchildren very much. Each one of them was special to her. There were always great conversations at the dinner table. She took pride in education and the jobs they chose.

On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, Diana departed this life at her home.

Those left to cherish her memories are: her devoted husband of 74 years, Samuel; her daughters, Gailya D. (Augustus) Warren of Hartford, CT and Cheryl Samira Darby of Zurich, Switzerland; her sons, Franklin E. (Iris) Darby of Tampa, FL and Michael D.
