IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris E.
Aiken Reid
June 11, 1946 – January 4, 2022
Doris Earline Aiken Reid, the sixth child of the late Leroy Aiken, Sr. and Idora Reid Aiken, was born June 11, 1946, in Oakley, South Carolina. On January 4, 2022, the Lord in His infinite wisdom summoned Doris to her eternal rest and peace in Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Andrew and Delbert Aiken.
At an early age, Doris became a member of Bethlehem Reformed Episcopal Church in Oakley, South Carolina where she participated in various church activities. In her later years, she was a member of St. Paul Community Church, New York, New York; St. Paul AME Church, Rockville Centre, New York and New Beginnings Church, Mechanicsville, Virginia.
Doris graduated from Berkeley Training High School, Moncks Corner, South Carolina in 1963. After graduation, she relocated to New York where she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and obtained a degree in Fashion Design. It was there that she fine-tuned her love of high fashion and developed her style as evidenced by her dazzling wardrobe. Doris served as an administrator in the Hearst Corporation for many years prior to joining Landauer as a claims administrator.
Doris was joined in holy matrimony to Isaac M. Reid on October 31, 1976. Together, they traveled the world. They raised one daughter, Renee D. Reid, MD.
Doris loved life and cherished her family and friends. Her culinary expertise was evident in the wonderful meals she lovingly prepared. Doris especially enjoyed life's celebrations and was our "Diva" who loved to style, sing, and praise dance.
Doris joined the Meridian Chapter #67 Prince Hall Order of the Eastern Star in 1991. In December of 1994, she was elevated to the highest office within the Chapter and served as Worthy Matron in 1995 and 1996.
Many fond and loving memories of Doris remain with us. She leaves to cherish these precious memories: her devoted husband, Isaac M. Reid; daughter, Renee D. Reid, MD; granddaughter, Marnae L. Reid; siblings, Betty Lauderdale, Leola Byas, Audrey McCants, Marvie Bynum, Leroy Aiken, Jr. and Anna (Ed) Vice, all of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Christenia Aiken of Goose Creek, South Carolina and Viola Aiken of Douglasville, Georgia; nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, niece-in-law, Ruth Reid of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; and other relatives and friends.
