Precious in the sight of the LORD
Is the death of His saints. ~ Psalm 116:15 (NKJV)

Dorothy Mae Brown Maybank was born February 18, 1929 in Alvin South Carolina. She was a daughter of the late Charlie Brown and Lula B. Alston. She entered into eternal life with the Lord on November 23, 2015 at Roper Berkeley Medical Center, Moncks Corner, SC.

Dorothy Mae was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County.   At an early age, Dorothy accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Emmanuel Reformed Episcopal Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Abraham Gadsden. She served there faithfully. She was a member of the Usher Board, Missionary Board and the Gospel Chorus.

Dorothy Mae met and married Raymond Maybank, Sr. in 1945. This union was blessed with eight children. Her husband preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by four children, Henry Lee, Effie, Jerry and Carolyn; and one grandson, Terrell Maybank.

"Momma Dot", as she was affectionately known, loved all things outdoors, namely fishing and gardening. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, and canning. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a very stern and outspoken person.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: one daughter, Esther Kelly of Alvin, SC; three sons, Raymond (Lollie Mae) Maybank of Cross, SC, Maurice (Freida) Maybank of Edisto Island, SC and Richard (Robenia) Maybank of the home; four grandchildren she reared in the home, Ernest (Francis) Brown, Anita (William) Lucas, Lincoln (Brandy) Maybank and Michael (LaShaera) Maybank; one sister, Virginia Lee Jones of Baltimore, MD; twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Rev. Charlie Goodman; a special grandnephew, Shane Goodman; a special niece, Alfreida Green; her special friends, Margaret Maybank, Shirley Washington, Maxine Phillips, Annie R. Taylor, and Ellena Beaufort; one adopted daughter, Gloria Wilson; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
