Dorothy Mae Callum-Evans was born on March 6, 1950 in Jamestown, South Carolina to her parents, the late Nathaniel Callum and Mae Bell Vince-Callum, also of Jamestown, SC. Dorothy went onto eternal rest on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in Montefiore Hospital, Bronx, NY
.
Dorothy was born and raised in Jamestown, SC where she was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church. She graduated from Rosemary High School, Class of 1968, Andrews, SC. She then moved to New York City with her son, Lamaar.
She soon met Gene Evans whom she married on March 27, 1971 and then welcomed her second son, Chad, the following months afterward.
Dorothy worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield doing clerical work before retiring after 20 years. Soon after she took a job as a day care facilitator at Soundale Daycare, Bronx, NY. She later left the lob due to health concerns.
Throughout the changes of Dorothy Evans life, she remained a faithful and dedicated member of Christ Church, Bronx, NY, where she also was a founding member. Dorothy spent over 45 years with Christ Church and was involved in the following organizations: Pastor's Aide, Co-Chairman of Class Leaders, President of the Gospel Choir and her favorite, "Hostess with the Mostess", where she welcomed all visitors who were only visitors once.
A brother, Melvin Thomas preceded her in death.
Mrs. Dorothy Mae Callum-Evans leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband, Gene Evans of Bronx, NY; two sons, Lamaar Blanding of Bronx, NY and Chad Evans of West Columbia, SC; one brother, Nathan Callum of Columbia, SC; four sisters, Venervey Callum of Portsmouth, VA, Yvonne Davis and Robin Callum both of Shulerville, SC and Valerie Hilton of Columbia, SC; one granddaughter, Symone Evans; two great-granddaughters, Dayla Burgess and Da'Lynn Burgess both of West Columbia, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
