LIFE STORY OF DOROTHY M. GILBERT "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." - II Timothy 4:7 Dorothy Mae Gilbert, daughter of the late Zack Gilbert and Lorene Campbell Gilbert, was born on May 20, 1947 in Darlington, South Carolina. Dorothy transitioned from time to eternity on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in Columbia, SC. She was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County and Darlington County. Dorothy moved to Albany, New York in 1968 and resided there until she moved to Charleston, SC in 2012. Dot spent her final years in Columbia, SC in 2012. Dorothy joined St. Peter's African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age. She enjoyed doing word and jigsaw puzzles. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Selene Sutton. She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, James (Melvina) Gilbert of High Point, NC, Darren Gilbert of Albany, NY and Tahki Gilbert of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Ethel (Bennie) Mackey of Albany, NY and Lillie Ann Tingman-Major of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other devoted family and friends.
