Obituary

Douglas Beauford, a son of the late Gilyard Beauford and Lular Taylor Beauford, was born on January 12, 1939 in Jamestown, South Carolina. He departed this life on Sunday, January 26, 2014 and closed the book on the many chapter of his life. Douglas received his education in Jamestown, SC and at the age of 18, he relocated to New York City to find employment. In his early years Douglas worked as a welder. After many years of big city living, Douglas returned to his quiet hometown where he earned retirement from Berkeley County. Douglas was known as "Buck" to his family and friends, earning the nickname because his siblings could not pronounce the word brother. Douglas was the fifth child; however he was the first-born son in the family. Douglas loved to hunt with his hunting club and work in the garden with his brother and sisters, harvesting a vast amount of fruits and vegetables for all the family to enjoy. Douglas was the patriarch of the family and took his responsibility seriously. He was known for his exemplary work ethic, generosity and his compassion for family and friends; oftentimes offering assistance whenever and wherever he was needed. Douglas will be missed but he has left a lasting impression and an honorable legacy. He was preceded in death by: his firstborn son, Clifton Douglas; his brother, Thomas Beauford and a sister, Lizzie Hawkins. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his precious memories: his daughters, Vanessa, Simone and Selena; his sons, Gray and Tyrone; grandchildren, Gerald Anthony, Atajinae, Jahaila, Emerald, Clifton and Brianna; great-grandchildren, Jamaya, Jador and Pierce; sisters, Louise, Teresa, Bertha, Betty, Yvonne and Sarah; brothers, Willie, Albert and Gilbert; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Douglas was loved dearly and will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved him, but we know we will see him again. May he rest in peace.
