Obituary

Douglas Leroy Holland, the son of the late Edith Bertha Holland Rogers, was born on October 16, 1935 in Mamaroneck, New York. He transitioned to eternal life with the Lord on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Low Country Hospice House in Summerville, South Carolina. He was affectionately known by his beloved family members as "Duggie".

Douglas received his education in the Mamaroneck Union Free Public School District and graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1953. As a high school student, he was a caddy at the Winged Foot Golf Club. In 1953, he joined the United States Army. He served three years active duty and three years reserve. He was granted an honorable discharge.

After leaving the military, Douglas did clerical work for about two years. He then obtained a job with the United States Postal Service. He was a Mail Carrier in the Garment District of New York. In 1970, he received a transfer from the New York Post Office to the Post Office in Charleston, South Carolina. He was assigned to the Rivers Annex Post Office as a Postal Clerk. Later, he was reassigned to the Cross County Post Office in North Charleston, South Carolina. He retired from the Cross County Post Office many years later.

Douglas was united in holy matrimony to Sandra Villa Brown on January 29, 1971. This union was blessed with two sons.

Douglas became a member of Mt. Carmel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, where Sandra was already a member. He was active with the Senior Choir and the Lay Organization.

During Douglas' lifetime, he enjoyed doing yard work and watching sporting events on television.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Sandra V. B. Holland of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; two sons: Glenn L. Holland and Craig B. Holland both of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; brothers-in-law, Mr. James A. Brown, Jr. (Beverly) of Moncks Corner, South Carolina and Mr. A. Kenneth Brown (Linda) of Columbia, South Carolina; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Dorothy Sands Miller of Bradenton, Florida and Mrs. Erbie M. B. Grate of Columbia, South Carolina; aunts, Mrs. Florine C. Manigault and Mrs. Elizabeth Cooper both of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Albert Miller, his sister, Barbara Ann Holland Bell, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Wilhelmina C. Brown and his sister-in-law, Rosalyn Alfreda Brown.

Viewing will be held Tuesday, November 9, 2021, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Carmel AME Church, 1059 Old Black Oak Road, Moncks Corner, SC. Face masks are required at the viewing and the service. Burial will be in Martha Jane White Cooper Memorial Garden, Moncks Corner, SC.
