Earther L. (Joe) Hudgen, son of the late J.C. and Houdie Mae Hudgen, was born on April 10, 1936 in Daleville, Alabama. Joe went to join the Lord on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 in Walterboro, South Carolina.
He was educated in the public schools of Daleville, AL.
Joe proudly served in the United States Navy where he was a Commissioned Officer and received an Honorable Discharge.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Joe, also known as "Papa Joe" by his granddaughters, supported and inspired many young people to pursue their dreams. Joe was not only a devoted father and husband, but also a dearly loved grandfather and friend to all that were graced by his presence. In addition to his joy in helping others, he loved talking to his grandchildren. Joe will be greatly missed by everyone that had ever encountered his kind soul.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Janet P. Hudgen; and his siblings, Coy, Nathaniel and Mary.
He is survived by: his son, Terrence Keith Hudgen; daughter, Shauna Yvonne Hudgen; two granddaughters, Jaylin-Paige Hudgen and Terri-Lynn Hudgen; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Face masks are required. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1831 Old Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC.
