IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edith Philis
Campbell-Richardson
June 6, 1944 – November 26, 2021
On June 6, 1944, in Bonneau, South Carolina, the Lord blessed the late Phillip and Evangelist Lillie Mae Campbell with their third oldest child and first daughter. They named her Edith Philis, yielding her the nickname "Edie".
Edith began her relationship with the Lord at an early age by attending St. Peters A.M.E. Church with her family. She attended Berkeley County schools, graduating from Russellville High School.
Being a social butterfly, after Edie graduated from high school, she relocated to Philadelphia, PA where she raised her family and often the neighborhood children too! Edith worked many jobs in retail in South Philly on Point Breeze Avenue. She then pursued her career becoming a teacher's assistant to special needs children for the Philadelphia School District until her retirement in 2000. She had a unique way of calming them down and providing a safe environment for them to grow. In her later years, she owned and operated her own thrift shop in her neighborhood.
Edith was joined in Holy Matrimony to John Richardson. She was a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, serving on the Trustee Board faithfully until relocating to Georgia. Edith requested spiritual watch care under the Ministry of Greater Beulah United Bible Way Church of Christ in South Carolina, under the leadership of Bishop Clarence Fordham as her pastor until her demise. She loved the Lord and loved being in the house of worship. Edith had a passion for helping those in need, cooking, shopping, traveling to Atlantic City, reading her bible and solving word search puzzles. She was indeed a giver of herself and her time. Her sweet and kind ways will always be remembered by all those who knew her.
On Friday, November 26, 2021, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Edith entered into eternal rest to be with her Lord at Northside Gwinnett Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Richardson; daughter, Pamela Campbell; one sister, Judith Nelson; and two brothers, Jimmy and Eugene Campbell.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her loving children, Arthur Campbell (Dawn) of Stone Mountain, GA, Cherease Campbell-Dorsey (Eric) of Lawrenceville, GA and Jonathan Richardson of Philadelphia, PA; six grandchildren, Antwine, Andrew, Carl, Chian, Arthur Jr. "AJ", and Autumn; two great-grandchildren, Antwine Jr. and Karli; three siblings, Ida Mae Liferidge (Deacon Clarence) of Moncks Corner, SC, Cynthia Fordham (Bishop Clarence) of Goose Creek, SC and Phillip Campbell, Jr. of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Lois Pharr; aunt, Joan Carter; uncle, Ned Curtis; Godson, Jonathan Fordham; and best friend of 51 years, Betty Sturdivant. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephew, relatives and friends.
