Edna Mae Blandon Green, was born on May 13, 1948 in Berkeley County, SC, a daughter of the late Ida Mae and Malachi Blandon, Sr. She transitioned into eternal life with the Lord on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Summerville Community Hospice House, Summerville, SC.
Edna received her education in the public schools of Berkeley County. She earned her Associates Degree in Secretarial Studies from Southeastern Business School. She was employed for 39 years as Head Secretary at H. E. Bonner Elementary School where she built many long-lasting friendships. She was a member of several professional organizations such as the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) where she held various local and state chapter positions. After retirement, Edna had a long standing relationship with Gethers Funeral Home and served diligently.
Edna was united in Holy Matrimony to Frank A. Green on June 17, 1967. This union was blessed with three children. Her son, Clayton "Ricky" Blandon, preceded her in death.
At an early age, Edna accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Good Shepherd Reformed Episcopal Church. After marriage, Edna transferred her membership to Sumpter Chapel United Methodist Church that later transitioned to New Light United Methodist Church where she was a faithful servant and active member in the church. She was a member of the choir, President of the United Methodist Women (UMW), Chairperson of the Pastor Parish Relationship Committee (PPRC), Coordinator for Education and Interpretation for Charleston District UMW, and Chairperson of Nomination for Charleston District UMW. Edna was an avid participant in United Methodist meetings and conferences at the District and State level.
Edna was civic-minded and was dedicated to serving and improving her community. She volunteered in several organizations: the Sumpter Free Health Clinic, the Forty-One/Wilder Community Committee for Improvement, St. Stephen Elementary Reading Partners Program and Lake Moultrie Nursing Home where she played Bingo with the residents. She was an avid member of the Russellville High School Class of 1965.
Edna enjoyed watching sports, especially attending the Atlanta Braves baseball games. She loved shopping with her sister, and spending quality time with her grands and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook delicious food for her family and especially enjoyed watching her family enjoy the meals.
Edna had a genuine love for mankind. She touched many lives in a positive way and will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, unwavering faith and her love for others.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her husband, Frank Green; children, Wayne (Scott) McManus-Green of Atlanta, GA, Heather (Allan) Headley of Lawrenceville, GA, Miranda Young of Columbia, SC and India (Troy) Richardson of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law, Sheila Blandon of Lexington, SC; siblings, Malachi (Joyce) Blandon, Jr., of Hamden, CT, Henry Keith Blandon and Jacqueline W. Blandon both of Bonneau, SC; grandchildren: LaKeishia and Latifah Blandon, Dasya' Young, Ryan Headley, Clayton Zachary McManus-Green and Sydney Richardson; great-grandchildren, Zakai, Zamirah and Zakari Blandon; brother and sisters-in-law, Joe Green, Ernatha (Joseph) Coaxum, Rosa Milligan and Brinda Green-Cardwell; sisters/cousins, Vernell Hodge, Annie and Lynette Middleton; special friend of the family, Torisha Smalls; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020, 2:00 p.m., at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 272 Church Road, St. Stephen, SC. Burial will take place at Sumpter Chapel Cemetery, 1083 Highway 35, St. Stephen, SC. Viewing and visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at New Light United Methodist Church, 1037 Russellville Road, St. Stephen, SC.
