Obituary

Mrs. Edna Knight Gibbs would like to let you know that her work here is done, as she peacefully entered eternal life on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at her home in Moncks Corner, SC. She was born on Friday, April 13, 1923 in Mount Holly, South Carolina to the late Samuel Knight, Sr. and Josephine Knight. She was one of eight children: William, Sandy, Mattie, John, Eva, Samuel Jr. and a brother that died at birth. Mrs. Edna attended school in Charleston County; however, she chose to sacrifice her education at a young age for the welfare of her siblings and family.

In 1939, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Benjamin Gibbs, Sr. God blessed this union with five daughters and three sons: Mrs. Viola (Jessie) Bryant of Moncks Corner, SC, Mr. Benjamin (Rosa) Gibbs, Jr. of Hyattsville, MD, Mrs. Doris (Rembert) Dash of Bronx, NY, Mr. Clarence (Minnie) Gibbs of Moncks Corner, SC, Mrs. Lenthia (Anglo) Grant of Cross, SC, Mrs. Dollie (Nathaniel) Kinloch of Moncks Corner, SC, Mr. Joe Gibbs of Moncks Corner, SC and Mrs. Thelma (Rev. Donnel) Liferidge of Moncks Corner, SC.

Mrs. Edna joined Mt. Carmel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Moncks Corner, SC, where she continued to be a devoted member for over fifty years. Mrs. Edna proudly sang in the Senior Choir and was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society. Her active membership at Mt. Carmel AME allowed her to use her gifts for the glory of God.

Her love for God was shown in everything she did. She was always inviting to friends and family, known to welcome you with a friendly "have a seat, sit a week...have a chair, sit a year". Mrs. Edna loved to bake and was well known among family and friends for her famous yeast rolls and pound cakes. She continuously blessed others with the talents and gifts God gave her. Another one of her well known talents was quilting. Each quilt that she made was crafted with love; her passion for quilting easily showed the compassion and care she had for others. Not only did she sell her quilts, but she also donated them to those in need. The warmth and comfort many loved ones received from her quilts was found in Mrs. Edna herself.

Her humble spirit left a lasting impact on many people. Mrs. Edna is now reunited with her husband and seven siblings.

Mrs. Edna leaves behind to cherish her memories: eight (8) children; her brother, Mr. John Knight of Goose Creek, SC; twenty-three (23) grandchildren; thirty-nine (39) great-grandchildren; five great, great-grandchildren' a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends too numerous to list but not forgotten.

We would like to give special thanks and recognition to her daughter, Mrs. Dollie Kinloch for the labor of love she displayed in taking care of Mom during her illness. We say to you, "Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."
