Obituary

Mr. Edward "Ben" Kirkland, son of the late Albert Moore and Mary Rodgers Kirkland, was born January 1, 1941, in St. Stephen, South Carolina.

Ben was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County and graduated from Russellville High School in 1959. He learned the trade of Heating and Air and was effective and mastered this skill. He enlisted in the United States Navy and later was employed as a civilian officer for the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Upon returning home to South Carolina, Ben continued his work at the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, SC, where he retired.

Ben was passionate about fishing and was a member of the Bass Pro Club. He was commonly known as the satellite and computer man in his community. He was a very loving person and was known for helping everyone.

On Saturday morning, January 29, 2022, Edward "Ben" Kirkland transitioned from Earth to Glory to be with his Lord and Savior.

Celebrating his life and the legacy of love he leaves behind are: his wife, Ella Ree Kirkland of Moncks Corner, SC; his daughter, Lucille Warren Gamble of St. Stephen, SC; a grandson whom he raised as a son, Carl (LaDonna) Singleton of Pasco, WA; granddaughters, Sarah (Clarence) Scott of St. Stephen, SC, Jessica (Antonio) Singletary of North Charleston, SC and Latoya Bryant of Summerville, SC; grandson, TyKim Norton, United States Army, of Alaska; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Evalena Wallace of St. Stephen, SC; special cousins, Florine Shirah and Joseph Shirah; special friends, Chris Gadsden, John "Pop" Swinton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving cousins, relatives and dear friends.

Viewing will be held Friday, February 4, 2022, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gethers St. Stephen Chapel, 221 Church Road, St. Stephen, SC. Face masks are required.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, a Private Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022. The service will be live-streamed at 11:00 a.m. on Gethers Funeral Home Inc.'s Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/gethersfh

The family is receiving friends at 3072 North Highway 52, St. Stephen, SC.
